The module handles short circuits to the transmitter supply up to 30 V d.c. without damage, thanks to integrated PTC resistors that limit current and protect the input circuitry.

Part of the ABB S800L I/O family, the AI801 (article number 3BSE020512R1) offers a compact form factor with dimensions of 86.1 mm width, 58.5 mm depth, and 110 mm height, weighing just 0.24 kg. Its detachable connectors simplify installation and maintenance, while the IP20 protection class suits clean indoor environments.

Technical Specifications and Performance

The AI801 provides 12-bit resolution across its 8 channels, with an input impedance of 230 to 275 kΩ (including the PTC). This ensures accurate current measurement with a maximum error of 0.1% and a typical temperature drift of 50 ppm/°C (max 80 ppm/°C). The module features an input filter with a rise time (0-90%) of 180 ms and an update cycle time of 1 ms, balancing noise rejection with responsiveness.

For signal integrity, the AI801 offers normal mode rejection ratio (NMRR) greater than 40 dB at 50 Hz and 60 Hz, and groupwise isolation from ground. The rated insulation voltage is 50 V, with a dielectric test voltage of 500 V a.c. Power dissipation is low at 1.1 W, with current consumption of 70 mA on the +5 V Modulebus and 30 mA on the +24 V external supply.

The module requires an external +24 V supply (30 mA) for its field-side circuitry.
