High-Density Output Architecture

The 1746-OV32 module organizes its outputs into two distinct groups. Each group contains sixteen sinking output channels. This architecture simplifies wiring and system diagnostics. You can isolate loads by machine zone or function. The module occupies only one slot in any SLC 500 chassis. It functions as both local and remote I/O. This flexibility reduces overall system hardware costs.

Critical Current Ratings for Selection

You must consider temperature when selecting this module. Each channel provides 0.50A at 30 degrees Celsius. The current rating drops to 0.25A per channel at 60 degrees Celsius. The entire module supports a continuous current of 8A. Each channel can handle a surge current of 1.0A for 10 milliseconds. Repeat this surge every one second at 30 degrees Celsius. Increase the interval to two seconds at 60 degrees Celsius.

Voltage and Backplane Specifications

This module requires a nominal output voltage of 24VDC. It accepts a wide voltage range from 5 to 50VDC. The module draws 0.190A from the 5VDC backplane. It provides isolation voltage of 1500VAC from the backplane for one minute. This isolation protects your control system from ground loops.

The 1746-OV32 exhibits fast signal transition times. The ON transition delay is only 0.1 ms. The OFF transition delay is 1.0 ms. The module has a step response of 60 milliseconds in. Its output step response is 2.5 milliseconds out. These specs ensure precise actuator control.

Thermal Management and Protection

You must account for heat dissipation in your panel design. Each channel dissipates 0.172 Watts. The minimum total dissipation is 0.95 Watts. The maximum total dissipation reaches 6.45 Watts. This module does not include electronic protection. You must add external electronic fusing for circuit protection.

The 1746-OV32 ships with a 40-pin female connector. You use crimp type pins for field wiring. The default wiring method uses the 1746-NC3 connector. You can also use the Allen-Bradley 1492 wiring system. This system uses 1492-CABLExx cables. It also uses the 1492-IFM40xx DIN rail terminal block. This option allows for convenient external I/O mounting.
