Allen-Bradley 1794-AENTR Flex I/O Dual Port EtherNet/IP Adapter
The 1794-AENTR is a redundant Ethernet adapter from Rockwell Automation. It connects Flex I/O racks to a central controller. This module supports both linear and ring topologies for high network availability.
Product Procurement & Buyer Guide
Engineers choose the 1794-AENTR for its robust dual-port design. This module enables high-availability networks with Device Level Ring (DLR) support. It ensures minimal downtime in critical manufacturing processes.
The module accepts an input voltage range of 19.2 to 31.2 Volts DC. This wide range accommodates power supply fluctuations. It requires a nominal 24 Volts DC supply for stable operation.
This adapter supports a communication rate of 10 to 100 Mbps. This speed ensures fast data exchange between the controller and I/O modules. It uses standard RJ45 Cat.5 Ethernet cables for connectivity.
The 1794-AENTR can interface with up to eight Flex I/O modules. This capacity allows for scalable system expansion. You can add more I/O points without changing the communication adapter.

Its DIN rail mounting simplifies installation in control panels. The module weighs only 0.56 lbs (0.26 kg). This lightweight design reduces stress on the mounting rail.
Step-by-Step Installation Guide
First, mount the 1794-AENTR onto a standard DIN rail. Ensure the location is free from excessive vibration and shock. The module tolerates vibration up to 5 g at 10-500Hz.
Second, connect an external 24 VDC power supply to the terminals. Use stranded copper wire sized between 22 and 12 AWG. The wire insulation must be rated for at least 75 °C (167 °F).

Third, plug the RJ45 Cat.5 cables into the two communication ports. These ports support both linear and ring network topologies. Configure your network for DLR to enable redundancy.
Fourth, attach up to eight Flex I/O modules to the adapter’s backplane. The module provides a Flexbus current of 640 mA at 5 Volts DC. This power supports the connected I/O modules.
Finally, power up the system and check the status LEDs. A green Module status LED indicates normal operation. A red LED signals a fault that requires troubleshooting.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting Protocols
Monitor the bi-color LEDs for network status. A green Network LED shows a healthy connection. A red Network LED indicates a communication error.

Check the Link 1 and Link 2 LEDs for speed status. A flashing yellow light means a 10 Mbps connection is active. A green light confirms a 100 Mbps connection.
Keep the operating temperature between 0 and 55 °C (32 to 131 °F). Exceeding this range can cause performance issues. Store the module between -40 and 85 °C (-40 to 185 °F) when not in use.
Inspect wiring connections for tightness and corrosion. Use only copper wire with insulation rated for 75 °C or higher. Replace damaged cables immediately to prevent signal loss.
