Selecting the Correct Terminal Base

The 1734-IE2C requires a compatible wiring base assembly to function. You must choose one of these four terminal bases: 1734-TB, 1734-TBS, 1734-TOP, or 1734-TOPS. Each base provides the physical connection points for your field wiring and module power. Verify your base selection matches your wiring density needs before proceeding.

Mounting the Module to the DIN Rail

This module supports mounting on a standard 35 mm DIN rail. You can orient the assembly either horizontally or vertically to fit your panel layout. First, snap the chosen terminal base onto the DIN rail. Then, align the module’s keyswitch to position 3 before sliding it onto the base. This keying prevents you from installing the wrong module type.

Wiring the Input Signals

Use copper wire with a size between 22 and 14 AWG for your connections. The wire must be solid or stranded and rated for at least 167 degrees Fahrenheit. Connect your current loop transmitter to the correct terminals on the base assembly. The module accepts a 10 to 28.8 Volts DC external power supply, with a nominal rating of 24 Volts DC.

Configuring the Input Range

You can select the operating mode for each channel through your control software. Choose between 0-20 mA or 4-20 mA depending on your transmitter’s output signal. The module uses a Delta-Sigma converter to transform the analog current into a digital value. It stores this data as a Signed Integer format with 16 bits of resolution across a 0 to 21 mA range.

Understanding the Step Response

The module’s input step response depends on your selected notch filter frequency. At the default 60 Hz notch, the module responds in 70 ms per channel. You can change the notch to 50 Hz for an 80 ms response, or to 500 Hz for a faster 8 ms response. This flexibility lets you balance noise rejection with system speed.

The 1734-IE2C delivers an absolute accuracy of 0.1% Full Scale at 25 degrees Celsius. This high precision ensures your process measurements remain reliable under normal operating conditions. The module also features an accuracy drift of only 30 ppm per degree Celsius. This low drift maintains signal integrity even when your cabinet temperature fluctuates.

Signal Processing Capabilities

Each channel provides a resolution of 16 bits, which gives you a granularity of 0.32 μA per count. This fine resolution allows you to detect very small changes in your process current. The internal Analog to Digital converter uses Delta-Sigma conversion technology. This method provides excellent noise immunity for your critical analog signals.

Electrical Robustness and Protection

The module includes overload fault protection up to 28.8 Volts DC. This feature safeguards the input circuitry against accidental overcurrent conditions. The 1734-IE2C also withstands 2550 Volts DC for 60 seconds during dielectric testing. It maintains 50 Volts of continuous isolation voltage for normal operation. These ratings ensure the module survives common electrical disturbances in industrial environments.

Power Consumption and Thermal Management

This module draws only 75 mA from the 5V DC backplane supply. It dissipates a maximum power of 0.6 Watts at 28.8 Volts DC. This low power consumption translates to a thermal dissipation of just 2.0 BTU per hour. You can install this module in dense I/O racks without worrying about excessive heat buildup.
