The 1746-OBP8 module provides a reliable solution for energizing 24VDC industrial loads. Each of its eight output points handles a continuous current of 2.0A at 60°C. This makes it ideal for driving solenoids, pilot lamps, and alarm systems. The module uses a sourcing configuration to switch positive DC voltage directly to the load. Its solid-state design ensures a fast signal delay of 1.0 ms for the ON state. The OFF state delay is also quick at just 2.0 ms for resistive loads. This performance guarantees precise control over actuator timing in critical processes. You can monitor the current state of each point using the e-fuse LED indicators. These indicators provide immediate visual feedback for rapid troubleshooting. The module operates within a voltage range of 20.4 to 26.4 Volts DC. This tolerance ensures stable performance even with minor power supply fluctuations.

Installing the 1746-OBP8 requires careful attention to mechanical and electrical specifications. The module occupies a single slot in an SLC 500 chassis. It is compatible with both fixed and modular hardware styles. First, ensure the chassis backplane power is completely disconnected. Then, align the module with the guide rails inside the slot. Firmly push the module in until it seats securely against the backplane connector. Use recommended signal wires with a maximum size of 2 mm. sq. (14 AWG). This wire gauge ensures proper current handling and minimizes voltage drop. The module is an open-type enclosure and must be mounted inside a suitable cabinet. This cabinet protects the module from dust and physical damage. The operating temperature of the surrounding air must stay between 0° and 60° Celsius. Always verify the total module current does not exceed 8.0A at 60°C. This prevents thermal overload and ensures long-term reliability. Remember that this module does not include electronic protection for the outputs. You should add external fusing for each output point in critical applications. For AC voltage loads, you must install interposing relays. The relay coil matches the module’s 24VDC output voltage. The relay contacts then safely switch the higher AC voltage.
