Product Summary

The Allen-Bradley 1762-IQ8 provides eight discrete input channels for your MicroLogix system. This module accepts a 10-30VDC input range and supports both sink and source wiring configurations. It delivers reliable signal acquisition for industrial control applications.

Theme Option A: Product Procurement & Buyer Guide

Matching the Module to Your Controller

The 1762-IQ8 works with MicroLogix 1100, 1200, and 1400 controllers. You must verify the host controller supports the required number of module instances. This module draws 50mA from the 5.1VDC backplane and consumes just 0.25 Watts.

Key Electrical Specifications for Engineers

This module operates with a nominal input voltage of 24VDC. The ON-state current ranges from 2.0mA minimum at 10VDC to 12.0mA maximum at 30VDC. The OFF-state current does not exceed 1.5mA. These values ensure compatibility with standard industrial sensors.

Understanding Sink and Source Wiring

1762-IQ8 Industrial Automation Spare Parts

The 1762-IQ8 supports both sinking and sourcing field devices. A sinking device connects to the negative side of the power supply. A sourcing device connects to the positive side. The module provides current to the sink device for proper operation.

Isolation Ratings for System Safety

The module provides input group to backplane isolation of 1200V AC for one second. It also passes a 1697V DC dielectric test for one second. This meets IEC Class 2 reinforced insulation standards with a 75V DC working voltage.

Environmental and Mounting Requirements

Install this module in non-hazardous, dry, and clean environments only. The circuits must not exceed Over Voltage Category II standards. Maintain a 2-inch clearance on all sides for proper cooling and ventilation.

Heat Dissipation and Power Consumption

The 1762-IQ8 dissipates 3.7 total Watts of heat during operation. This low heat output allows for dense panel layouts without thermal concerns. The module uses a single status LED to indicate power and operational state.

Theme Option B: Step-by-Step User & Installation Guide

Mechanical Mounting Procedure

The 1762-IQ8 supports DIN rail or direct panel mounting. Ensure you maintain a clearance of 50.8 cm or 2 inches on all sides. This space allows for natural airflow and adequate working room for wiring.

Wiring the Input Terminal Block

The input terminal block includes a finger-safe cover for protection. Use bit positions 0 through 7 for the eight input terminals. Each channel requires configuration after the module installation for correct operation.

Connecting Sink or Source Devices

For sinking devices, connect the device to the negative supply rail. For sourcing devices, connect the device to the positive supply rail. The module communicates and receives 10, 24, and 30 Volts DC power via the 1762 bus interface.

Powering the Module

The 1762-IQ8 receives its power through the 1762 bus interface. The module requires a 24VDC input power supply. The input voltage range spans from 10 to 30VDC at 30°C and 10 to 26.4VDC at 55°C.

Safety Precautions for Installation

Always remove power before servicing the module to prevent damage. Prevent electrostatic discharge during handling and installation. Wire safety circuits in series to the master relay for proper system protection.

Troubleshooting and Operational Checks

Stand away from equipment when troubleshooting to ensure safety. Check for any program changes before starting maintenance. The single status LED helps identify the operational state of the module quickly.
