Core Compatibility and Sensor Support

The 1762-IT4 works exclusively with MicroLogix 1200 controllers. It accepts nine thermocouple types including J, K, T, and E. You can also wire Type R, S, B, N, and C sensors directly. This module also reads ±50 mV and ±100 mV signals. This flexibility reduces the need for separate signal conditioners.

Resolution and Signal Conversion

This module uses a Sigma-Delta converter for stable data. It provides a 15-bit plus sign resolution for each channel. This high resolution ensures you capture fine temperature changes. The module autocalibrates during power-up to maintain long-term accuracy. This feature eliminates manual calibration routines in the field.

This module draws 40 mA from the 5.1V bus and 50 mA from the 24V bus. Its maximum heat dissipation is only 1.5 Watts. This low power consumption reduces the load on your system power supply. It also minimizes heat buildup inside your control cabinet.

Filtering and Update Times

You can select from six programmable filter frequencies. Options include 10 Hz, 50 Hz, 60 Hz, 250 Hz, 500 Hz, and 1 kHz. Each filter frequency provides a specific channel update time. For example, the 10 Hz filter gives a 303 ms update. The 1 kHz filter provides a fast 7 ms update. Choose the filter that balances noise rejection with speed.

Cold Junction Compensation Accuracy

The built-in CJC sensor ensures accurate temperature readings. It offers an accuracy of ±1.3 °C (±2.54 °F). This compensation is critical for precise thermocouple measurements. It automatically corrects for the temperature at the connection terminals.

Use differential input wiring for all thermocouple and mV signals. For millivolt signals, Belden 8761 cable is the recommended choice. Always use appropriate thermocouple extension wire for your sensor type. Proper wiring prevents signal degradation and noise interference.

Dynamic Performance and Noise Rejection

The programmable notch filter provides excellent noise rejection. You can tune it to suppress 50 Hz or 60 Hz line noise. This capability is vital for stable readings in electrically noisy environments. The Sigma-Delta conversion method further enhances signal integrity. It oversamples the input to achieve high effective resolution.
