It provides a single ControlNet port with a communication rate of 5 Mbps. This adapter also converts incoming power for up to eight adjacent I/O modules.

This module only supports that specific communication standard. It does not work on DeviceNet or EtherNet/IP networks. Check your existing control cabinet for a ControlNet trunk line.

The adapter requires a 24 Volts DC power supply. Its input voltage range is 19.2 to 31.2 Volts DC. Ensure your power source can deliver this voltage consistently. The module draws a maximum current of 450 mA at startup. Plan your power budget to include this inrush current of 23 Amps for 2 milliseconds.

Your system design must account for the number of I/O modules. The 1794-ACN15 supports a maximum of eight (8) Flex I/O modules. Exceeding this limit will cause network errors and system failure. Consider the environmental conditions of your installation. The module operates in temperatures from 0 to 55 °C (32 to 131 °F). It can withstand storage temperatures from -40 to 85 °C. The unit also handles vibration of 5 g at 10-500 Hz. This makes it suitable for industrial environments with heavy machinery.

The adapter requires specific wiring for termination. Use single wire connections of 0.33 to 2.5 mm² (22...12 AWG). The copper wire must be rated at 75 °C or greater. For double wire connections, use 0.33 to 1.3 mm² wire. These specifications ensure a safe and reliable electrical connection.

Proper installation of the 1794-ACN15 requires careful attention to detail. Begin by mounting the adapter on a DIN rail. Use a zinc-plated yellow-chromate steel DIN rail for proper grounding. Mount the rail to the ground chassis of your control panel. This provides a solid electrical earth connection.

Next, connect the ControlNet communication cable. Use Belden RG-6/U coaxial cable or an equivalent type. Connect this cable to the single ControlNet port on the module. The communication rate is 5 Mbps. Ensure the cable length does not exceed standard ControlNet limits for your network.

Wire the power supply to the module terminals. The input voltage range is 19.2 to 31.2 Volts DC. Use the specified wire sizes for single or double connections. The power wiring must not exceed 32.8 feet (10 meters) in length. This limit prevents voltage drop and ensures stable operation.

Attach the Flex I/O modules to the right side of the adapter. The 1794-ACN15 can support up to eight modules. Each module connects via the internal Flexbus. The adapter provides 640 mA of output current to the backplane. This powers the connected I/O modules.
