The Bently Nevada 3500/42M 176449-02 is a critical component for advanced machinery protection systems. This monitor accepts signals from proximity, velocity, or acceleration transducers to ensure operational safety and reliability.

Core Technical Specifications & Parameters

The 3500/42M 176449-02 is a versatile monitor designed for precise vibration and position measurement. It accepts from one to four transducer signals, providing flexible configuration for various machine train setups. The typical power consumption for this module is 7.7 watts, ensuring efficient operation within a 3500 rack system. Input impedance for standard I/O is 10 kΩ for Proximitor and acceleration inputs, which is crucial for signal integrity.

Sensitivity settings are highly configurable for different measurement types. For radial vibration, thrust, and eccentricity, the sensitivity can be set to either 3.94 mV/μm (100 mV/mil) or 7.87 mV/μm (200 mV/mil). Differential expansion sensitivity is available at 0.394 mV/μm (10 mV/mil) or 0.787 mV/μm (20 mV/mil). For REBAM measurements, sensitivity options are 40 mV/μm (1000 mV/mil) or 80 mV/μm (2000 mV/mil). Acceleration inputs offer a sensitivity of 10 mV/(m/s²) (100 mV/g). Velocity inputs provide options of 20 mV/(mm/s) pk (500 mV/(in/s) pk), 5.8 mV/(mm/s) pk (145 mV/(in/s) pk), or 4 mV/(mm/s) pk (100 mV/(in/s) pk). Shaft absolute measurements for radial vibration and direct have the same sensitivity options as radial vibration. The monitor provides buffered transducer outputs on the front panel via coaxial connectors, each being short-circuit protected with an output impedance of 550 Ω. The transducer power supply is -24 Vdc. Recorder outputs provide +4 to +20 mA signals proportional to the monitor full-scale value, with a resolution of 0.3662 µA per bit and an update rate of approximately 100 ms or less.

Professional Installation & Wiring Guidelines

Proper installation of the 3500/42M is essential for accurate machinery protection. Begin by ensuring the 3500 rack is powered down before inserting or removing any module. Carefully align the module with the guide slots in the rack and push it firmly into place until the locking mechanism engages. All wiring must comply with local electrical codes and the specifications outlined in the user manual. For I/O modules with external terminations, you must order the external termination blocks and cables separately. Do not use external termination blocks with internal termination I/O modules as this will cause a module mismatch error. Ensure that all transducer connections are secure and that the correct sensitivity settings are configured for your specific application. After installation, verify the OK LED is illuminated to confirm the monitor is operating properly.
