The Allen-Bradley 1746-OV16 is a robust discrete output module for the SLC 500 system. It provides sixteen sinking outputs to control DC loads. This module directly energizes relay coils, indicators, and alarms. It operates reliably within a 10-50 VDC range. The 1746-OV16 handles high-current applications with ease. Its design simplifies wiring and reduces installation time.

Begin by powering down the entire SLC 500 chassis system. Align the 1746-OV16 module with an empty slot. Slide it firmly onto the backplane until it locks. Secure the module using the top and bottom mounting screws. Do not overtighten these fasteners to avoid damage.

Next, prepare your DC load wiring for the terminal block. Remove the pre-installed terminal block from the module. This action allows for easier and faster wiring access. Connect your field wiring to the appropriate numbered terminals. Ensure the wiring follows a standard sink configuration. Connect the common DC return to the correct terminal. Verify that the supply voltage is between 10 and 50 VDC.

Reattach the terminal block to the 1746-OV16 module. Ensure it clicks into place securely. Apply power to the chassis and check the module status. The module will draw 0.270 A from the 5V backplane. Test each output channel with a known load. Confirm the On-state voltage drop is under 1.2V at 0.5 A. The module is now ready for normal operation.
